Weekend Vibes Idea | Flower Magic!
Is the weather a little muggy outside? Check out this cool idea for your child to explore science using flower power (and some food colouring :))!
You will need:
• a (light-coloured) flower – make sure the stem is still attached
• a clear, glass container
• water
• a colour wheel or chart, optional
• food colouring
1. Go on an adventure with your child. The venture could be about the backyard, in a field, in a park, or anywhere where you are sure to find flowers.
2. Find a lovely blooming flower! The lighter the colour, the better for this experiment.
3. Using gardening sheers or precise handling with your fingers, pluck the flower from the base of its stem, keeping the stem intact.
4. Fill a clear, glass container halfway with water.
5. Refer to the colour wheel/chart for the desired outcome. For example, if your flower is yellow and you want it to turn green, use blue food colouring (as yellow and blue mixed together create green).
6. Add a few drops of the food colouring of your choice.
7. Place the container in your kitchen window sill.
8. Follow its changes over the next couple of days.
9. Voila! Your flower has changed its colour – magically!
This is sure to delight your little one!
How did this happen, you may be wondering???
We’ve drafted a cool guide to help you to explain what is happening with this Flower Magic to your child!
This guide will help them to understand what is being taught in class about plants and plant growth.
Discover the science behind this flower magic! 🙂 Explain with ease to your toddler, preteen, and/or teenager.
